Herring Gas Company, Inc was founded in October, 1946 by the late C. Graham Herring in Meadville, Mississippi. The focus of Mr. Herring’s business remains the same today as its founding… sell propane gas to customers with courteous and prompt delivery while providing skilled personnel to support service needs. Under Mr. Herring’s leadership, additional branches were opened in Brookhaven in 1951 and Gloster in 1960.
Ed Herring, the companies current Chairman of the Board, grew up working in the gas business. In 1969, he graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Business Administration. After graduation, he served two years in the army, which included a tour of duty in Vietnam. Following an honorable discharge in 1971, Ed returned home to work with his father and in 1975 became the president of Herring Gas Company. Under Ed’s leadership our family owned business has grown with acquisitions and internal growth too.
Herring Gas Company is now in a third generation of succession with Ed’s son, Jody Herring, serving as the company president. Jody, like his father, has grown up in the propane gas business, working in every aspect of the company from service technician to regional operations manager. Jody is not only well versed in propane but is also a graduate of Belhaven College with a degree in business. Today, Jody is committed to following the same core values of his father and grandfather while leading the company into the future.
The leadership team at Herring Gas also includes, Colby Bass, CFO; Tommy Smallwood, vice president. Together they make sure the day to day operations run smoothly, which ultimately is making sure our customer’s needs are taken care of.
